Like Donald Trump, Johnson doesn’t believe in much apart from his own brilliance and has, at most stages of his career, been simultaneously in favour and against the big issues of the day. His decision making is determined by how much his support, or not, will be of value to his career and bank balance.
When you cast your mind back to Brexit, the option never discussed was if we should Leave the Neo-Liberal Trading Block that is the EU, what new direction could the UK take, apart from dining out on chlorinated chicken? Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour hinted in 2017 & 2019 what that could look like; a process of national renewal investing in jobs, public services, manufacturing, infrastructure, Greening the economy and wresting the grubby hands of Neo-Liberals off the State.
Instead, we have succeeded as a nation, in agreeing to dump one Austerity worshipping Neo-Liberal trading block, to join another Austerity worshipping Neo-Liberal Trading block, that was even worse, the USA. What a national success story.
